- Mesh topology
- A network topology that involves all (or most) nodes being interconnected with each other.
- How are data packets transferred in a mesh topology?
- To the destination address using the fastest path - and directly if possible.
- Advantages of a mesh topology
- - Reliable, as if a path fails, data can take an alternative route to the destination. - One node failing does not affect the rest of the network.
- Advantage - why can mesh topologies usually withstand large amounts of data traffic?
- As there are many routes by which data can travel, reducing data collisions.
- Disadvantages of a mesh topology
- - Without a central device, wired mesh topologies can be difficult to manage due to wires taking up a lot of physical space.
- Disadvantage - why can mesh topologies be expensive to install and maintain?
- Due to lots of cabling - especially in a fully-wired mesh topology.
