Embedded Systems | 1.3 | OCR GCSE Computer Science
9 flashcards
- Hardware
- The physical components that make up a computer system.
- Software
- The programs or applications that a computer system runs.
- General purpose systems
- Systems that are designed to perform many tasks.
- Embedded systems
- Computers built into other devices to provide a means of control.
- Why are embedded systems easier to design?
- Because they are dedicated to a single task.
- What are characteristics of an embedded system?
- - Being built into a larger device - Dedicated to a specific task - Uses dedicated hardware (e.g. microprocessor) - Has limited processing power and memory. - Software can be difficult to update.
- How does a washing machine have an embedded system?
- They have an embedded system that manages wash cycles and controls water temperature.
- How do cars have an embedded system?
- They have embedded systems that manage the engine and automated features (e.g. headlights).
- How do traffic lights have an embedded system?
- They have embedded systems that controls the sequence and timing of the lights.
