- Client-server model
- Clients send requests to the server for data or resources. The server then processes the request and responds.
- What does a server store?
- - User profiles - Passwords - Access information
- Advantages of client-server model
- - Easier to keep track of files as they are stored centrally. - Easier to perform backups as they are managed from a single location. - Easier to manage network security. - Servers can process many requests at once.
- Advantage - How are client-server networks scalable?
- You can easily add new devices (clients) or upgrade the server without disrupting the entire network.
- Disadvantages of client-server model
- - Expensive to set up - Requires IT specialists to maintain the network and server - If the central server goes down, the whole network does down with it + clients lose their resources. - If too many clients are accessing the server at once, it may become overloaded.
