- Peer-to-peer network
- A model where all devices are equal, connecting directly to each other.
- Why are peer-to-peer networks often used in small offices and houses?
- - As client-server networks are expensive to set up and maintain. - A server is unnecessary for small, general networks.
- Where are files stored on peer-to-peer networks?
- On individual devices - these files can be shared with other devices.
- Advantages of peer-to-peer model
- - Cheaper and simpler to set up - no dependence on a server. - If one computer fails the whole network does not go down.
- Disadvantages of peer to peer networks
- - No central management to manage back-ups, security and file access. - Not very scalable - adding more computers slows the network down.
